Visitor concentration is a recognized challenge for regional destinations: foot traffic frequently clusters around a single main viewpoint, leaving secondary trails underutilized and local destination management organizations (DMOs) unable to fully distribute economic benefits. This concentration of visitors can degrade the experience at primary hubs while lesser-known cultural and natural assets remain neglected.
Traditional approaches to regional exploration rely on heavy native applications that require downloads, or static paper brochures that visitors quickly discard. Neither approach succeeds in engaging the modern, digital-native traveler.
To resolve these challenges, we are pleased to introduce our new service blueprint: Laxy Treasure Hunt. This solution transforms physical destinations into interactive, gamified journeys with minimal friction, encouraging visitors to explore regional heritage at their own pace.
The Online-to-Offline Journey: Distributing Foot Traffic
Laxy Treasure Hunt combines low-cost physical anchors with modern web technologies to guide visitors through nature trails, coastal paths, and cultural exhibits. The journey consists of four key touchpoints:
- Near Field Communication (NFC) tags and Quick Response (QR) codes Visitors tap physical NFC tags or scan QR codes placed on trail markers. This action instantly opens multilingual Artificial Intelligence (AI) audio guides in their preferred language, explaining localized histories without requiring an app download.
- Selfie Check-ins at Key Milestones At designated checkpoints, visitors take a selfie through a web interface. This action confirms the visit and creates a digital check-in record of their outdoor achievement.
- Client-Side Digital Postcards A client-side canvas engine automatically merges the visitor's selfie and travel dates into a personalized digital postcard, optimized for immediate social media sharing.
- Physical Souvenir Rewards Upon returning to the DMO information desk, visitors present their digital check-in proof to receive a high-quality, custom-crafted drawstring cotton pouch.
Below is a concept video demonstrating this user journey, showing how visitors can engage with the path milestones and check-in checkpoints:
Physical Collectibles: The Pokémon-Style Card Concept
To make the journey even more memorable, our creative team is designing physical, collectible Pokémon-style cards. These cards feature regional landmarks, mascot spirits, or historical monuments (such as the Umi Jigoku water spirit or the Beppu Tengu Statue), complete with interactive missions and gameplay stats.

We believe distributing these unique collectible cards at information centers across Japan could create an engaging, collectible reward loop for travelers. We invite comments and feedback on how this Pokémon-style card concept can be tailored for local tourism campaigns.
Business Value for Tourism Venues and DMOs
Laxy Treasure Hunt is designed to deliver measurable results for regional operators:
- Overcrowding Mitigation: Operators can direct traffic away from crowded hotspots by placing high-value physical rewards and milestones along underutilized routes.
- Granular Analytics: The proposed platform is designed to track checkpoint check-in times and trail completion rates, providing DMOs with critical data to optimize trail maintenance and staffing.
- Frictionless Onboarding: Because the system operates entirely as a Progressive Web Application (PWA), visitors launch the experience in seconds without downloading anything from an app store.
Flexible Blueprints for Forward-Looking Partners
Laxy Treasure Hunt is a flexible blueprint designed to integrate seamlessly with Laxy, our scalable, AI-powered spatial storytelling solution. Operating under our philosophy of *“Essence within, experience beyond,”* Laxy serves as a storyteller in your pocket, providing the digital infrastructure for museums, real estate, and hospitality venues to deliver multi-sensory experiences to a global audience.
We are currently looking for pilot partners, regional districts, and tourism operators to build the future of destination engagement together. Whether you are interested in a custom trial or want to collaborate on the Pokémon-style card concept, we welcome your feedback. Please contact our team at hello@aruo.tech to share your ideas.
